The popular and bombastic host of CNBC's Mad Money, Jim Cramer, took to the airwaves on Monday to declare something that vape industry participants have known for a long time: electronic cigarettes are causing real pain to traditional cigarette manufacturers. Perhaps the most relevant comment of the segment was when he said: "We saw the market's sudden recognition that the cigarette industry seems to be in serious trouble, disrupted by the rise of vaping."
He added: "Bottom line: last week investors realized, practically overnight, that the tobacco industry is facing an existential threat from its vaporizer competitors, led by Juul Labs," Cramer said. "And while the group got obliterated last week, I think it could even have more downside."
